The Jaguar Land Rover factory in Liverpool has successfully created a Lean culture in only 4 years. That means:

  • Employees know their job in detail and recognise their accounta-bility for the processes, and that leaders support, coach, challenge and drive the business
  • Deviations in business performance are clearly being understood, root cause is being identified and problems are being eliminated
  • All employees and leaders learn from their mistakes and continuously improve business performance
  • All business processes are being standardised and stably executed and the outcome is precisely predictable

  • More than 15% increase in performance and efficiency yearly

  • Improvement of quality with several 100% since 1997 has been acknowledged by the industry: In 2001 with the “Best European Vehicle Line Warranty” and in 2005 with the “JD Powers European Gold Plant Award”
  • Successful development of highly flexible equipment and workforce to cope with a diverse product line setup

                            Foreman Body: Versatility management, process confirmation, escalation of performance data
                            Body Shop Manager: Resource management, long-term business management, Lean structure to follow up business, performance data escalation
                            Assembly Plant: Pull material system, Andon boards, visual factory, stop-the-line-quality system, Yamazumi

11.30 – 13.00 Meet the Operation Director and hear about: Daily business board to manage the factory, performance data escalation, process confirmation, waste walks, long-                          term business management (incl. sandwich from 12.30)

13.00 – 14.45 Internal discussions, facilitated by consultants. Lean teaching will be provided during the discussions:

Peter Knorst
Peter has an MA in economics from University Saarbrücken. Peter has 22 years of management experience with Lean Production and Lean Leadership in Ford Motor Company where he also teaches at the Ford Lean Learning Academy. Since 2006, he has acted as a management consultant and assisted in both development and implementation of Lean Leadership in Novo Nordisk as well as coaching leaders at the Mercedes Benz Truck Group factories in executing Lean Leadership.
